Campus Equity Week

This year, Campus Equity Week falls on October 28—November 2, during which time the AAUP calls on chapters and conferences to organize events around their own salient equity issues dealing with, for example, contingent faculty, faculty of color, student debt, MOOCS/online education, and curriculum “reform,” to name a few.

For those of you who are unfamiliar: Campus Equity Week was started in 2001 by the Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor (COCAL), with the goal of organizing actions and events that highlight how casualizing the academic workforce negatively affects the quality of instruction, academic freedom, and shared governance, and exacerbates inequities amongst faculty and students alike. It is a week where we organize to demonstrate the tremendous challenges we face to improve the quality of higher education and higher education work, and to collectively advance our ideas for change.

The New Faculty Majority, the central coordinator for this year's Campus Equity Week, has set up a website where you will find information regarding CEW, themes, sponsors, resources, and events (http://www.campusequityweek.org/2013/). If your chapter or conference is holding an event, please provide the information to Mayra Besosa, chair of the Committee on Contingency and the Profession, who will forward it to be posted on the CEW 2013 website and help draw greater publicity to your event and the AAUP’s participation. You can also see resources and information about past CEW activities on the AAUP website at http://www.aaup.org/issues/contingency/campus-equity-week.

Please provide the following information:

  • AAUP chapter/conference
  • Brief description of the event
  • Time/date/location of the event
  • Link Other information
If your chapter or conference does not currently have an event planned for Campus Equity Week, but you are interested in organizing an action or event, please contact Mayra Besosa ([email protected]) or Scott Clifthorne (AAUP Northwest Coordinator: [email protected]).

Thank you.
